| Einstein rapped by Rowley poet
Spoken word poet Rob Wheeldon, of Highfield Road, has been wowing the experts with his rap about Albert Einstein's theory of relativity. The lyrics, which feature the line “Mass and energy is the same thing, E+MC is da bling" and also tells readers “come on now donlt be morons just innovate your interneurons," have been published in Astronomy magazine and even read out on Radio One. Rob, who like Einstein is dyslexic, said he got the idea after seeing a rap of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet on television. Rob said: “I thought if rap could help people understand Shakespeare, why not apply it to science as well? “I had an interest in Einstein's work so that seemed a logical subject, the first line was in my head almost straight away but the rest of the rap took a long time to put together.
MPP: The future is now
It's not every day you find a politician making references to Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking, but as Ontario's minister of research and innovation it's not so surprising John Wilkinson would. The Perth-Wellington MPP finds himself interacting almost daily with some of Canada's brightest lights -- and out of necessity he has to have an understanding of the latest research, everything from lasers to the next generation of computers to sensors that can remotely detect leaks in water mains. "I have this unique position in the government where I get to see the future every day and that is so exciting and it's inspiring," he said earlier this week in an interview focused on his portfolio. Part of his job, he explained, is to continue the "horizontal integration" between ministries that his predecessor in the portfolio -- Premier Dalton McGuinty -- had in mind when he created the research and innovation ministry, the first of its kind in Canada.
